Abstract

报告摘要:
Spatially confined, large assemblies of cold atoms or molecules possessing a finite electric or magnetic dipole moment have been the subject of intense experimental and theoretical investigation over the past two decades. The main reason for investigating this system is that it may offer a glimpse of exotic phases that are not observed in ordinary, naturally occurring condensed matter, chiefly due to the anisotropic character of the interaction between two particles.
This talk will offer an overview of the theoretical research effort of our group, aimed at
elucidating some of the most important aspects of the physics of this system. We focus
on the case of Bose statistics and make use of large-scale, first principle computer simulations based on state of the art Quantum Monte Carlo techniques. Results for different confining geometries and dimensionality will be presented, and possible future research directions and challenges discussed.
