Speaker's Brief Introduction:Francesco Petruccione is a physicist and academic leader currently living in South Africa and serving as a professor of Physics at Stellenbosch University and the director of the National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NITheCS). Petruccione is also a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and a Fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa.
Abstract: The talk provides an overview of quantum technology activities in South Africa in general and at Stellenbosch University in particular. We will focus on aspects of the application of open quantum systems, quantum computing and machine learning, as well as quantum effects in biological systems. The intention is to explore opportunities for future collaboration between USTC and SU in the area of quantum technology.
