Quantum communication backbone network (Beijing-Shanghai)

On July 22th, 2013, Quantum communication network "Beijing-Shanghai Backbone" project was carried out by the National Development and Reform Commission of China. The project is lead by the University of Science and Technology of China, and cooperated by China Cable Television Network Co., Ltd., Shandong Research Institute of Information Communication Technology, China Banking Regulatory Commission Information Center, Advanced Technology Research Institute of the University of Science and Technology of China, Xinhua News Agency, and so on.

The overall goal of the project is to build a quantum communication backbone network connecting Beijing, Shanghai, Jinan, Hefei and other places; connecting the metropolitan area access networks to build wide-area optical fiber quantum communication network, building large-scale quantum communication demonstration platform; constructing the corresponding ground quantum communication network with the “Mocius” Quantum Satellite program to achieve the connection between "Beijing-Shanghai backbone" and the “Mocius” quantum satellite in order to form a space-earth integrated wide-area quantum communication network, extend application capacity of the "Beijing-Shanghai backbone ".

The main construction contents of the project include: verification and equipment shaping of the key technologies of long-distance quantum communication, indoor intermodulation and construction of quantum communication backbone, application research and development of application demonstration system, normative security research and development of evaluation methods and evaluation tools of quantum communication system under realistic conditions. Through the construction of "Beijing-Shanghai backbone", we will complete the operation of the wide-area quantum communication network technology verification, the formation of application demonstration model, improve the application model, mature business model, improve the important areas of information and communication security capabilities, and catalyze the quantum communication technology as the core of the emerging industries.
