Attack of the Teleclones

Date: 2006-12-13

The Physics Stories of the Year 2006, Physics News Update, was published on December 5, 2006. Telecloning
is one of the topics. PNU 765

For the first time, Pan’s group reported a demonstration of telecloning -- between an original photon and one
clone at a remote location and another clone local to it ( Zhao et al., Phys. Rev. Lett., 15 July 2005).

Then, a team of physicists in Japan and the UK has demonstrated "full telecloning" . Telecloning, which
combines quantum cloning and teleportation into a single step, involves sending quantum information to more  than one receiver. The breakthrough was made by Sam Braunstein of the University of York and Akira Furusawa  and colleagues at the University of Tokyo and the Japan Science Technology Agency, who successfully sent  information about a laser beam to two remote locations in a single step (Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 060504).
